BRIEF HISTORY OF THE FACULTY
Faculty of Tourism is a structural unit of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University. It was established by the order of the rector of the University № 154 as of August 19, 2003 based on the Decree of the Academic Board № 10 as of July 02, 2003. The creation of a self-consistent higher educational institution was caused by the needs of the region for training high quality specialists in the sphere of tourism, meeting the tasks and the requirements of “The Public Program of Tourism Development in Ukraine up to 2010”. Students are provided with up-to-date equipped facilities, classrooms for lectures and practical classes, the library, computer rooms connected to the Internet, sports recreational institutions in Ivano-Frankivsk, Kalush, Mykulychyn, Vorokhta. Formation of professional skills of the future specialists is taking place not only in the process of theoretical classes in specialized subject-areas related to the system of management and functioning of tourist organizations and hotel resorts but during their practical training on the basis of manufacturing structures of this profile existing in Ivano-Frankivsk region as well as in the process of getting specialization in sports, water, horse, cycling and automobile tourism.

The Department of Management of Socio-Cultural Activity was founded in the Institute of Tourism according to the Decree of the Academic Board of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University on July 01, 2014. The Head of the Department is the Candidate of Sciences of State Management (PhD) – Vasyl Vasyliovych Shykerynets. The Department consists of 4 candidates of sciences (PhDs), associate professors and 1 senior teacher.

The Department of Foreign Languages and Country Studies was founded in 2005 as part of the Institute of Tourism. The Head of the Department is the Candidate of Philological Sciences (PhD), Professor – Vasyl Mykolaiovych Uhryniuk. The Department consists of 1 professor, 7 associate professors and 10 teachers, among them – 5 Candidates of Philological Sciences (PHDs), 3 Candidates of Pedagogical Sciences (PhDs), 1 Candidate of Psychological Sciences (PhD).

The Department of Tourism Studies and Local History was founded in 2010 on the initiative of the Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor V.S. Velykochii. The Department is considered to be the youngest one in the Faculty of Tourism. A long process of development of the Institute and growing of scientific and pedagogical staff proceeded its opening. Since September 2014, the Head of the Department has been the Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor – Ivan Fedorovych Kalutskyi. 7 full-time employees are working at the Department, namely: 1 – Doctor of Sciences, 6 – Candidates of Sciences (PhD).

The Department of Hotel-Restaurant and Resort Business has been the part of the Institute of Tourism since 2007. The Head of the Department is the Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor – Volodymyr Mykhailovych Klapchuk. Training in specialties “ Hotel and Restaurant Business” and “Health Resort Business” is provided by 10 full-time scientific pedagogical employees (including 2 – Doctors of Sciences, Professors; 6 – Candidates of Sciences (PhDs), Associate Professors), 10 – internal (including 2 – Doctors of Sciences, Professors; 5 – Candidates of Sciences (PhDs), Associate Professors) and 2 external part-time employees (including 1 – Doctor of Sciences, Professor).
